Neo Co founder, Da Hongfei, made some interesting claims about the blockchain space in a wide ranging interview with Bitcoinist, during the NEO DEVCON in Seattle.

Neo is a leading blockchain-based platform for developing smart contract-enabled decentralized applications (dApps), and has become an industry leader in the field.

Currently, the company are in the process of building and promoting their latest venture, NEO 3.0, which was the focal point for their conference this past week. On this subject, he said the NEO platform will only support issuing assets “with smart contracts”, and that NEO’s developers are planning to “unify” both asset types so that “there will be no more UTXO assets”.

The conversation also turned to other big players in the blockchain game, namely Ethereum. Hongfei believes “Ethereum currently has the strongest community of developers”. He also said that Ethereum’s development team is “like the go-to solution” and that “if you want to [learn] how to [write proper] smart contracts, [then] you will probably do it on Ethereum.”

On dApps, his specialist subgect, his ideas around development were certainly interesting, with the self-taught computer programmer saying:

“Blockchain development will be divided] into different layers. [For example,] TCP/IP is at the bottom and HTTP protocol is on top of TCP/IP. If you are building an internet application, you don’t have to bother about TCP/IP these days, you don’t even need to worry about HTTP. You have different middle layers to build on top of that. So blockchain will take a similar road.”

He claimed dApps currently deployed have been built on top of layer one, or the base layer of blockchain networks, Hongfei believes that “in the future, there will be different layers” – especially “a lot of layer 2 solutions” with “native support” or native development environments the best way to facilitate this change. Currently though, this idea needs more work as the “blockchain infrastructure” of today is “not ready for mass adoption”.

Hongfei, has a clear commitment to the ideas and processes behind Blockchain. He said, “(Blockhain) was a new institutional technology” and felt that blockchain technology will evolve in a similar way to how the internet developed.

Ultimately, he holds that those involved in the blockchain and digital currency are pioneers of the future. The ones who will guide the world into a digital age that will be undeniable, as he contended:

“(The) whole world will [eventually] become digital.”
