Hong Kong Fintech Week

The hotly anticipated, Hong Kong Fintech Week, is set to return next month with Asia’s biggest financial technology event looking to build upon the previous edition’s success.

Starting on November 4th and finishing on the 8th, the event will cover the topics of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, fintech in China, Greater Bay Area collaboration, and virtual banking.

With thousands of industry attendees expected, from executives to entrepreneurs, investors and everything in between, the Hong Kong Fintech Week is rightly regarded as one of the biggest tech events in the world.

The increase in popularity and exposure at this year’s event has prompted organizers to move the venue to the AsiaWorld-Expo to accommodate the crowds.

The event will also host over 200 speakers, with TransferWise, Kabbage, Credit Karma, Tencent, Lufax, and Ping An all sending representatives. Media companies, policymakers, and academics will also be in attendance. So, what can we expect these speakers and the event to be focused on?

What will happen?

This year’s event promises an increase in the topics discussed. From emerging technologies to other business-related elements like insurance. Virtual banking is an area that will be opened at the event and the eight banks who have gained regulatory approval from Hong Kong will be invited to speak.

The opening two days of the event will focus on innovation lab visits, company visits, association meetups, seminars, and education events. Cyberport’s annual premier venture forum will be the highlights of days three and four.

The main conference will commence on November 6th and 7th, with the top speakers and events taking place then. November 8th will see the conference move to mainland China, in the silicon valley technological hub of Shenzhen. This will prompt a deeper look at China’s role in technological advancement.

A highlight of the whole event will be the FintechHK Global Competition awarding. The competition which has seen various projects battle it out for a huge investment. One section of the investment comes from Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund and other investors, totaling US$500,000. The winners will also take a $20,000 cash prize.

In order to illustrate the growing demand and engagement with the financial technology industry, the Hong Kong fintech week is widening its outlets and events. The topic of new technology will be on display at the Experience Stage, with AI, APIs, cloud, DLT and much more discussed. The Greater Bay Area Fintech Summit looks at opportunities in the region.

The event expects to be a roaring success and a must for all technological fans in Asia and around the world.
