The Ethereum community fund project (ECF) will partner with Shandong University to establish the ‘College Student Blockchain Technology Research Association.’

According to a report from Jinse, the ECF will fund Professor Zhang Xiao’s undergraduate course on eco-construction around Ethereum, including professional textbooks, training cloud platforms and related case libraries.

The course will revolve around blockchain technology and its practical application. The teaching materials are also going to be provided to other major universities. Additionally, special students from universities around the globe will be given internships and training with Ethereum in different countries.

The course in Shandong will also set a precedent for future educational courses provided by Ethereum through their ECF project. One such project is there Community Course Edition, which is used to promote the use of learning materials to the community.

An open network of funds

According to their Medium website, they “aim to be an open network of funds and a community union to contribute to the common goods and harmonize community concerns.” Its members include Cosmos, OmiseGO, Golem, Web3 Foundation, MakerDAO, Status, and other star blockchain project teams, with Ethereum Foundation acting as a consultant too.

Founded in 2018, the ECF has committed itself to educate the next generation in blockchain technology. The nonprofit organization has worked with Stansted University and funded around 40 projects and 20 blockchain activities. ECF members and community ambassadors are globally located in central cities such as Berlin, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Shanghai.

Other crypto companies have looked to get into education

Ethereum is not the only major blockchain company that has started an educational aspect to their work and partnered with universities.

Huobi also partnered with a prominent Chinese university in a similar move to the ECF; Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance and Huobi launched a joint Digital Assets Research Initiative in May 2015.

Ripple also has a global University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). First launched in June 2018, the number of universities has grown to 29, which includes universities in the United States, China, Singapore, and Brazil.

Polychain Capital has sponsored Stansted University’s Blockchain Research Centre. CollinStar Capital backed a joint research lab at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and at Monash University in Australia.

Binance launched their Binance Academy in December 2018. The nonprofit blockchain education portal released more than 450 blockchain and cryptocurrency articles and videos across 15 popular languages.

Some universities have also looked to get involved in the crypto/blockchain space. MIT in the U.S. and the IT University of Copenhagen have launched their own internal blockchain laboratories, research centers, degree programs, and certificates.
